How often do we try to fill ourselves with things other than Jesus?
Grabbing our phones when we are bored.
Shopping when we are lonely.
Looking to others to make us feel seen.
Trying to find purpose through our jobs or our kids.
Trying to find our worth in how we look.
Eating junk when we are stressed.
Turning the on the TV so we can zone out and decompress.
We have so many coping mechanisms to fill all of the emotions we have going on inside.
We make habits of reaching for things that will never fill us.
We know they won’t and yet we still do it, and then we are left feeling no better.
And Jesus waits beside us, He sees our thirsty souls.
He sees that our hearts are parched and need to be filled.
He sits there and is just waiting for us to allow Him in. To ask Him to fill these voids.
He says, “If you only knew what I have you would ask.”
Instead of reaching for chocolate to destress you could ask for His peace and He would give you peace that surpasses all understanding.
Instead of trying to accumulate stuff to make you feel less alone you could talk to Him, experience His presence, and know He will never forsake you.
Instead of looking at your jean size to find your worth He could remind you that you are beautifully made in His image.
Instead of looking for purpose in things of this world He could remind you that your purpose belongs to the kingdom that is not of this world.
Our souls could only ever be satisfied by Him.
He wants to fill us completely with His presence and His love.
He has what our souls are searching for…springs of living water that will refresh and renew us.
We only need to ask…
